North Korean state media reported on 3 September 2023 that a Korean People’s Army missile unit in the western region conducted a response drill on 2 September 2023.

RESPONSE DRILL FOR IMPORTANT PURPOSE HELD

While the enemies mobilized dozens of fighters of all kinds to conduct joint guided bomb strike and aerial bombing drills for two days from last August 31 following an adventurous large-scale joint drill, they continued to make the situation tense and revealed more openly their plan for military confrontation against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

A high-spirited strategic cruise missile unit of the Korean People’s Army in the western region conducted relevant military activities.

Ahead of the launch, it inspected the procedure for confirming the nuclear strike order and the rapid operation normality of the technical and systemic equipment of the launch approval system, and, in accordance with the rapid approval procedure, two long-range strategic cruise missiles armed with test warheads were fired in an actual war environment.

The missile sub-unit mobilized in the drill fired the long-range strategic cruise missiles from the mouth of the Chongchon River towards the West Sea of Korea to fly in a figure-eight flight track simulating a distance of 1,500 km. for 7,672 and 7,681 s. respectively, after which they were detonated in the air at the set altitude of 150 m. over the target island to accurately carry out the nuclear strike mission.

The Central Military Commission of the Workers’ Party of Korea, while once again emphasizing the necessity of the aggressive action for the deterring capability of the nuclear forces of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea to be realized, emphasized the need for all nuclear forces to keep the high alertness and mobility and make the U.S. and the military gangsters of the “Republic of Korea” realize more clearly the reality that has reached a serious threat through the complete overwhelming exercise of war deterrence.
