STATEMENT OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS FIRST VICE MINISTER CHOE SON HUI
OF THE DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF KOREA

The term “DPRK-US summit talks”, which have been desolately forgotten even in our memory, are drawing the attention of the international community while it is being raised to the topic of conversation recently.

While there are people who awkwardly express their will to arbitrate completely without knowledge on what we, the concerned party, are thinking, voices saying that the US ruling class is sympathizing on the necessity to hold DPRK-US summit talks before the US presidential election are also coming in.

While expressing the expectation to receive an “October surprise gift”, dreamers who see that our denuclearization efforts as interchangeable with conditional sanctions relief are appearing.

I cannot help being struck dumb on the popularization of the rumor of a summit meeting that disregards the current state of DPRK-US relations at a sensitive time such as recently when a minor misjudgment and misstep will cause fatal and irreversible consequences.

Can talks or deals be surely established with the US which is persistently tied to its hostile acts against the DPRK in disregard of the agreements already achieved at the summit talks?

It is clear to us without having to meet on purpose that the US, which does not have the will to drop a courageous decision to produce a new board with us, is approaching us with some tricks.

It is a misjudgment if you think that the US can still sway us with something like negotiations.

We are already planning a more detailed strategic timetable for managing the long-term threats of the US.

The policy of our state cannot be adjusted or changed following external variables such as anyone’s domestic political schedule.

There is nothing more to say.

There is no need to sit face to face with the US without considering the DPRK-US talks as anything except a tool for dealing with their political crisis.
